LETS PUT AN END TO HATE CRIMES, WE ALL BELONG TO ONE RACE-THE HUMAN RACE

Today's political climate demands that all gun owners get involved in the defense of our firearm rights. We can no longer afford to just sit back and allow things to happen that could jeopardize those rights. Every law-abiding citizen has the ability to make a positive impact. No task is to small, and whatever time you can give will make a difference. If you cherish your firearm freedoms, you must get involved. No matter what your interests are, Join the NRA and get involved in protecting your 2nd Amendment rights.Their are many volunteer programs and services.

The blame for violent crime should not be put on law-abiding gun owners, the media and the politicians should instead, focus their attention on the real culprit-the criminal, and push for harder punishment. If the criminal wants the same rights as you and I, they should have to obey the laws as you and I do, If they break those laws then they should loose those rights. As it stands now-we spend more on confinement per inmate, than most of us make. Loose the tv`s, the cigarettes, the books, and lets go back to making them do hard time. As long as life is easier inside prison than outside, why should they conform. What about 16 hour work days? If they want books, schooling, tv, let them do all these things as a normal law abiding citizen. All the gentle reforms have not really worked-we need to get tough on crime. The re-habilitate the criminal program does not work. All it does is create a few more jobs and becomes a burden on the tax payer.

Lets turn this judicial and criminal system around, and make it work for us-the law abiding citizen. Contact your legislatures and tell them you are fed up and want a change. We are going to have to reclaim our streets block by block.

There are several things you can do:

Write personal letters to your elected officials

Attend town meetings

Call your elected officials on the phone

vote

The NRA is on line at www.nra.org with all the information you need to get involved!

The NRA national police championships were a great success-the competition was fierce, over 500 shooters this year. Federal law enforcement teams were back, finally. It looks like the future of police shooting will be around for a long time, our congratulations to them all.

GUN OWNERS SHOW THEIR CLOUT: As usual, the media show their bias, and who doesn`t know who is behind their wrong reporting of events. The re-election of 92 percent of those who voted to repeal the gun and magazine ban, shows where the voters want to be led.

Suzanna Hupp, who lost her parents in the Luby Cafeteria murders, is a national advocate for the right to carry a gun for protection, was elected to a seat in the texas state legislature.

Lets keep drowning out the voices who want to

take our 2nd Amendment rights away. Why is the media so against telling the truth, and why does it lean towards special interest groups-and dis- information??

Its a fact that responsible gun ownership can:

reduce crime without a shot being fired.

Its a fact that concealed gun ownership does reduce crime.

Its a fact that the ant-gun people do distort the facts.

Consider the cop killer bullets. Not one of the bullets has ever been used on a policeman, in fact law enforcement beged NBC not to broadcast the the report. The report let people know the ammo was there-before it was virtually unknown.

It has never been used or offered for sale to the general public.....

Dear Arkansas gun rights supporter:

The future of your right to keep and bear arms is in your hands. Enclosed is a contact roster for the candidates running for election to the state legislature, and possibly other state offices, in your state. Please take a little time to contact your candidates using the provided pre-written message. Now is the time to get them to answer the Gun Owners of America 2000 State Candidate Survey program. GOA sends surveys to candidates running in the General Election on November 7, 2000. Right now these candidates are seeking your support, but in many cases they won't answer specific questions about specific issues. Many politicians still believe it is good politics to stand with Sarah Brady, Bill Clinton and Al Gore in opposition to your 2nd Amendment rights. Let these anti-gun politicians know they should apologize for doing so and stand up 100% for your gun rights. Remind them that protecting your gun rights is both good policy and good politics. The best time to do this is while they are listening to their constituents and seeking support. Of course, most compromisers and anti-gun politicians seek to hide their "spots." Here are some things to consider: * Some have answered the survey with mixed results by taking some anti-gun stands on specific proposals. Others have answered 100% pro-gun. * Some have outright refused to answer because they're hostile to your gun rights. * Some are just ignoring your gun rights by not responding to the GOA survey. * Some are incumbents who answer pro-gun but try to downplay past anti-gun votes. But right now your direct contact is the kind of grassroots "heat" that will force many fence-sitter candidates to "see the light" and answer or "fix" bad answers. You see, even now President Clinton, Vice President Al Gore and anti-gun advocates in the media are working to seize the power to control, and eliminate, your gun rights. They are actively lobbying your candidates to support their agenda. The anti-gunners plan to stop or reverse concealed carry reform. Others are scheming to take the Brady "instant check" registration system of all firearms to the next step -- toward gun rationing and full-blown registration: serial numbers, licensing, and mandatory bureaucratic training with yearly taxes and fees. Then they'll go for confiscation. However, when you put the heat on politicians they see the light. That's where the Gun Owners of America State Candidate Survey program comes into play. The biggest problem for many gun owners is getting a straight answer out of the politicians on where they stand and how they plan to vote. Experience shows time and again that in an election year, politicians listen more carefully to their constituents. That's why it is so important you contact your candidates and insist they answer the GOA candidate survey. Here's what I need you to do: 1. Look up your candidates on the roster below-- especially Senate and House. It will have contact information. 2. Next, use the pre-written message to aid in contacting them. Note: If you don't know your district(s), you can look them up at http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm in the GOA Legislative Action Center. Simply click on Guide to States, and enter your zipcode as directed. (Also, the Election 2000 section contains additional information about candidates, such as websites, fax numbers, and sometimes e-mail addresses.) If your candidate(s) says he has answered 100% for your rights -- great! Soon GOA will be sending you the actual results with the answers of the candidates for your inspection. (In case you are wondering, the NRA has an official policy that its candidate surveys are not to be shown to their members.) Please act right away. Time is short, and your candidates are forming the details of their positions on gun control as the media, anti-gun activists and party "hacks" lobby them to sell out your gun rights for campaign contributions and sympathetic news stories. Sincerely, Dennis Fusaro Director of State Legislation State-level survey questions 1. Do you oppose "one-gun-a-month" laws that limit purchases of firearms by law-abiding citizens? 2. Should state law continue to prohibit localities from placing limitations on the rights of citizens to purchase, possess, or carry firearms? 3. Would you oppose legislation mandating no-safety zones designed to ban open or concealed carry for self-defense and forcing honest citizens to be disarmed? 4. Would you oppose legislation that would require that firearms purchased by private citizens be registered with law enforcement and tracked by a centralized record system administered by government agencies? 5. Do you oppose legislation banning the manufacture, sale or possession of semi-automatic firearms? 6. Do you oppose legislation banning the manufacture, sale or possession of large-capacity ammunition magazines? 7. Do you oppose laws that would take away the rights of 18-20 year-olds to possess a firearm? 8. Do you oppose laws that allow persons who are shot by a properly-working firearm to sue firearms manufacturers and/or firearms sellers (strict liability)? 9. Do you oppose laws that would ban the sale of a privately owned firearm at a gun show unless it is reported and registered with government bureaucrats? 10. Do you oppose government licensing to buy a gun? 11. Do you oppose computerized "instant" background check legislation since it centrally registers gun sales and gun owners? 12. Would you oppose government mandated use of trigger locks or other such hazardous "safety" devices which have the effect of making it difficult, if not impossible, to have a gun available to defend your home and family? 13. Would you oppose legislation that bans firearms ownership due to simple misdemeanors, and therefore unfairly targets and victimizes legal gun owners? 14. Would you support Vermont-style legislation, which would eliminate all requirements to pay fees and register gun owners and simply allow law-abiding citizens to carry firearms openly or concealed (at the individual's discretion) for any reason except for the commission of a crime? ----- Pre-written message -----

Rep. Ron Paul Moving to Eliminate Gun Control Bureaucracy

-- Amendment would remove U.S. from U.N. jurisdiction

by Gun Owners of America

8001 Forbes Place, Suite 102, Springfield, VA 22151

(703)321-8585, fax: 321-8408, http://www.gunowners.org

(Wednesday, June 4, 1997) -- Pro-gun Representative Ron Paul

(R-TX) is working to remove a tourniquet that is slowly being

drawn around gun owners' necks. GOA has learned from his office

that Rep. Paul plans to introduce -- either today or tomorrow --

an amendment that will pull the U.S. out of the U.N. His office

has asked GOA and its supporters to generate support for passing

this amendment.

Among the many benefits of withdrawing from the world

government would be that the U.N. would no longer have any

authority to enforce its gun control agenda -- an agenda which

has been quietly gathering momentum in the past couple of years.

Here is a brief synopsis of the problem and what Rep. Paul is

planning to do:

From the Horse's Mouth -- U.N. openly looking to register

private firearms globally

* The documents from the U.N.'s own webpage --

http://www.un.org -- make it clear that they are very serious

about disarming American civilians. For example, on December

22, 1995, the UN announced the launch of a study of small

arms. Among the countries involved in this study are the

Japanese, Canadian and Russian governments. (Also

participating was Stewart Allen, Chief of the Intelligence

Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.)

IF THIS IS PART OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER IT SCARES ME AND SHOULD BE STOPED.jb

* A few months later, the U.N. Commission on Crime Prevention

and Criminal Justice met in Vienna (May, 1996) to discuss

strategies for civilian disarmament among the member states.

In announcing this summit, U.N. bureaucrats set forth what

they perceived to be a major problem -- namely, that "small

arms are spreading throughout society with little

documentation, since they are frequently bought from private

individuals." Thus, one of the commission's objectives was to

study gun control laws around the world for "the development

of related strategies" among the member countries (like the

U.S.).

* Since most countries register gun owners, one would

undoubtedly expect that the "related strategies" would include

registering all guns so that the U.N. and the subordinate

governments (including the U.S.) will know where the guns are.

No more anonymous gun sales with "little documentation." No

more passing a gun down from father to son. No more selling a

gun to a friend at the office. Big Brother will track

everything pertaining to guns.

* Gun control illustrates one of the dangers of the U.S.

membership in the U.N. In May of 1994, the Clinton

administration agreed to participate in a discussion of ways

for the United Nations to control the manufacture of guns and

their sales to civilians. This was over a year before all of

the activities of the U.N. Commission on Crime Prevention and

Criminal Justice swung into motion with financial support from

Japan and bureaucrats on loan from our neighbor, Canada.

These other countries were not sneaking in the back door of

U.S. sovereignty -- our own government was hiding behind the

U.N. to carry out the civilian disarmament they did not think

they could get away with by themselves.

ACTION: Support Rep. Paul and the "American Sovereignty

Restoration Amendment"!

* Call or fax your Representative and ask them to support what

is known as either the "Paul Amendment" or the "American

Sovereignty Restoration Amendment." He plans to offer this

amendment to H.R. 1757, the Foreign Relations Authorization

Act. In brief, Rep. Paul's amendment would get the U.S. out of

the U.N. and the U.N. out of the U.S.

* Phone numbers for Reps: 1-800-962-3524, 1-800-972-3524 and

202-225-3121.

* If you wish to call, fax, or e-mail your Representatives'

offices directly, contact info can be found at

Another Assault on the Bill of Rights
-- CWC Treaty violates protections that gun owners enjoy

by Gun Owners of America, fax: 703-321-8408
http://www.gunowners.org

(April 16, 1997) -- Last week, Gun Owners of America
represented the nation's gun owners when it took the stage with
Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) and almost 40 other conservative groups
and talk show hosts to oppose the Chemical Weapons Convention
(CWC) -- a treaty aimed at banning certain types of weapons.
While there are certainly many reasons for opposing the treaty,
at stake from a gun owner's perspective is the assault on the
American Bill of Rights.

As stated by Sen. Inhofe on the Senate floor last week, "I
think we should also look at the constitutionality of this
[treaty]. I know a lot of times things are passed around here
over the fact that it is a violation of the Constitution. . . .
But in this case, it would permit searches and seizures without
warrants or probable cause. I think this is a very serious
thing."

Judge Robert H. Bork also has commented on the Fourth and
Fifth Amendment violations in the treaty, noting that: "The U.S.
is required by the CWC to enforce inspection by an international
team, even over opposition from the owner. On-site personnel can
be compelled to answer questions, provide data, and permit
searches of anything within the premises -- including records,
files, papers, processes, controls, structures and vehicles."

According to Bork, international 'observers' would be
allowed to inspect U.S. property without a warrant, and even
seize American goods without probable cause. For now, the treaty
would only 'authorize' infringements upon those who own chemical
companies. But allowing foreign agents to violate the most basic
freedoms of any American is a horrible precedent that should make
every gun owner shudder. The Bill of Rights either protects
every American, or it protects none at all. If we allow our
government officials to start carving out exceptions -- groups of
people to whom the Bill of Rights does not apply -- then it will
be only a matter of time before the enumerated rights become
meaningless . . . before these rights no longer apply to anyone.

Gun Owners of America joined Senator Inhofe and the near 40
organizations in denouncing the Constitutional violations in
this treaty at a press conference last Thursday. "The Fourth and
Fifth Amendments protect gun owners," said GOA Director of
Government Affairs Erich Pratt. "But this treaty will eventually
endanger everyone's rights if it is approved by the Senate.

"Two hundred years ago, King George tried to use general
warrants to search for and seize American's property. We fought
a war over it. Now, we're using a treaty to give foreign King
Georges who are unaccountable to the American people the same
power to run around the protections in the Bill of Rights. This
is insane," Pratt said.

ACTION: Senators are claiming that they have not heard any
opposition to this treaty. Well, let your senator know that you
do not approve of any violations of the Bill of Rights, and if
that means voting down this treaty, so be it. Put your
opposition in writing by faxing or mailing them a note.

Also, let Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-MS) know that you
want him to lobby fellow Republicans against the treaty. There's
concern that Lott is not doing enough behind the scenes to kill the
treaty. As one member of the coalition noted, Lott "may 'do a
Bob Dole.' Greasing the skids for it and then voting against it
in order to satifsy constituents." According to The Washington
Post, Sen. Lott is scheduling a vote to occur sometime around
April 24. As Majority Leader, Lott could simply refuse to bring
up the Clinton-backed treaty for a vote. Senate:1-800-962-3524;
Lott's ph: 202-224-6253; fax: 224-2262.

Final note: This alert has only attempted to give the
Constitutional objections to the CWC. If you want more talking
points regarding this treaty, please call the Center for Security
Policy at 202-466-0515. On the Internet, you can find the treaty
at the Web site of the U.S. Arms Control & Disarmament Agency.

Pointing your browser to http://www.acda.gov will take you to the
agency's Web page.

More Reps. Jumping on the Bandwagon
-- Hotline updated with new Western Union message

by Gun Owners of America

8001 Forbes Place, Suite 102, Springfield, VA 22151
(703)321-8585, fax: 321-8408, http://www.gunowners.org
(Friday, May 2, 1997)

Good work on pushing the Citizen's Self-Defense Act. Dozens
of you sent Western Union mailgrams to your Representatives
asking them to cosponsor HR 27, the Citizen's Self Defense Act.
Eleven new cosponsors have now jumped on board, bringing the
total to 52. This bill has more cosponsors than any other
pro-gun bill in the Congress. The bill is important as it would
protect anyone who uses a gun in self-defense, even if the gun
used was carried without a permit or possessed without a license.
(Certainly, Bernie Goetz could have benefited from this bill
becoming law.)

Thanks to your help, Chenoweth's bill becomes the leading
repeal bill. Since our last alert, six more cosponsors have
signed onto Rep. Helen Chenoweth's bill to repeal the Lautenberg
gun ban. Her bill (HR 1009) now has 21 cosponsors, which is four
more than the compromise bill introduced by Rep. Bob Barr (R-GA).
Rep. Chenoweth's office has informed GOA that the six new
cosponsors are Reps. Jim Bunning (R-KY), John Cooksey (R-LA),
Michael Crapo (R-ID), David McIntosh (R-IN), Floyd Spence (R-SC)
and J.C. Watts (R-OK).

ACTION ITEMS:

1. GOA has updated the Western Union Hotline
(1-800-651-1486) to now send messages in support of repealing the
Lautenberg gun ban. These mailgrams will push support for H.R.
1009, as well as answer the typical reasons that Congressmen give
for keeping the gun ban in place. Many of these guys are on the
fence, and we just need to give them a forceful push to get them
as cosponsors. So let's swamp them in Western Union mailgrams!
The Hotline is also set up to send Thank You letters to all the
Representatives that have cosponsored H.R. 1009. A fee of $6.95
will be charged to your phone bill.

2. To really put the heat on, get GOA's five sample "Letters
to the Editor" and get them placed in your local papers. Each of
these letters will challenge your Representative to cosponsor
H.R. 1009. Each letter will identify him by name as being one of
the Congressmen who still have yet to support the full repeal of
the Lautenberg gun ban. Moreover, each letter will give powerful
arguments for the repeal of Lautenberg. Placing these letters in
the newspapers in your Congressman's district will force him to
either get on the bill or to continue "putting out brushfires."
There are five letters in all, so you can send one and get your
family and friends to send the others.

You can get these "Letters to the Editor" by faxing GOA a
request for them at 703-321-8408. Or, you can visit the GOA
website at http://www.gunowners.org/coslettb.htm to get copies of
the letters.

want to contribute-contact us-send your short articles and we will review to see if they meet our standards. submissions are not returnable, unless prior arrangements are made.
